OUR STORY

Tyler’s Camp, SummerCollab’s middle school academy, offers Delaware’s rising 4th through 8th graders a unique summer experience. Tyler’s Camp targets a wide variety of students by providing arts, hands-on technology, and athletic options, alongside targeted literacy support. With this, students have the opportunity to see growth in their motivation, self-esteem, critical thinking, leadership and entrepreneurial skills. T​yler’s Camp Instructors are critical to students’ success, ensuring their capacity to access and meaningfully engage in high quality learning opportunities across disciplines.

 

YOUR ROLE

Tyler’s Camp Instructors will execute curriculum in their discipline, in 45 minute block increments, four days a week. ​Major responsibilities include:

  • Proactively preparing lesson plans in the pre-season months for students.
  • Executing instruction with fidelity while upholding best-practices in safety, behavior management, and camp culture.
  • Working hand in hand with Tyler’s Camp leadership and camp counselors to ensure students have a positive and meaningful camp experience.

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

SummerCollab is looking to hire qualified and experienced dance, music, athletics, technology, art, engineering, and other specialty skill instructors. Candidates should have a positive attitude, passion, patience and team orientation. Instructors should have the ability to engage all students in their area of expertise, and be willing to support ​students who may have a varying degree of ability and knowledge in their focus area.

Past courses at Tyler’s Camp have included:

  • Dance (ballet, step, hip hop)
  • Music (choir, music production, DJing, percussion)
  • Sports (football, lacrosse, baseball, wrestling, field hockey, rowing)
  • Technology (coding, robotics)
  • Art (painting and crafts, graphic design)
  • Entrepreneurship

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Carefully prepare for and execute specialty lessons with campers daily
  • Secure course approval from Leadership Team prior to the start of camp and respond to feedback as needed
  • Cultivate and uphold a culture of achievement through productive struggle in the classroom and throughout the program day
  • Work closely with the counselors to ensure students are engaged and supported throughout each session
  • Assist with arrival and dismissal of students as necessary
  • Participate in all relevant training and meetings, both site-specific and network wide throughout the summer months

All staff will need to have access to reliable WiFi and a device equipped with a camera and microphone.

Tyler’s Camp Counselor

OUR STORY

Tyler’s Camp, SummerCollab’s middle school academy, offers Delaware’s rising 4th through 8th graders a unique summer experience. Tyler’s Camp targets a wide variety of students by providing arts, hands-on technology, and athletic options, alongside targeted literacy support. With this, students have the opportunity to see growth in their motivation, self-esteem, critical thinking, leadership and entrepreneurial skills. The role of the Counselor is to ensure all participants maneuver the program day successfully, while feeling safe and supported during their summer experience.

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • At least 17 years of age by June 1, 2020
  • Access to reliable technology and WiFi to participate in the virtual classrooms.

 

YOUR ROLE

Tyler’s Camp Counselors are matched with a group of no more than fifteen students who they are responsible for supporting across all settings throughout the camp day. Major responsibilities include:

  • Providing behavioral and instructional support to instructors during program courses
  • Supervising campers outside of instructional time, including lunch, recess, arrival, and dismissal
  • Serving as a role model to all students by displaying respect and professionalism at all times

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

SummerCollab is looking to hire creative, passionate individuals, over the age of 17, who enjoy working with students in grades 4-8. Candidates for the Counselor position should posses the leadership skills necessary to manage groups of students while providing a fun, safe and supportive environment. As Counselors will be in constant communication with Instructors, the ideal candidate will demonstrate effective communication skills, as well as the ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude. Counselors should be able to address student challenges quickly and effectively, collaborating with Instructors and the Dean of Students to support the behavior and academic needs of students. The ideal candidate is flexible and willing to take on a variety of roles to support students. Preference given to candidates residing in the city of Wilmington.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise students and participate alongside them throughout the day’s programming
  • Build strong relationships with students
  • Comply with and consistently enforce any procedures related to safety and behavior management
  • Implement trauma sensitive approaches to support students
  • Take camper attendance daily and track data in an organized manner
  • Communicate needs and progress of students with Instructors and camp leadership
  • Work with Instructors to ensure students are engaged and supported and actively learning in each session
  • Facilitate and monitor student transitions between blocks
  • Oversee and manage lunchtime and recess blocks with campers
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism throughout all interactions with staff and campers

Tyler’s Camp STRIVE Facilitator

Each Tyler’s Camp location targets a wide variety of students by providing arts, hands-on technology, and athletic options, alongside targeted literacy support. With this, students have the opportunity to see growth in their motivation, self-esteem, critical thinking, leadership and entrepreneurial skills.

 

YOUR ROLE

The Strive Instructor is a leader in social-emotional learning and leadership. As the Strive Instructor, major responsibilities include:

  • Participate in a required teacher training in late June.
  • Teach 2 daily blocks of our S​ocial Emotional & Leadership​ Class (SELC), 4 days/week. (Each class = 45 minutes.)
  • Collaborate effectively with Tyler’s Camp Counselors.
  • Communicate effectively with Tyler’s Camp Counselors, Directors and Deans.
  • Assist with course evaluation process and participate in weekly curriculum review as requested.

 

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

Candidates need to possess proven experience in:

  • Teaching/working with​ middle school ​youth – at least two years preferred.
  • Teaching/working with low-income youth – at least two years preferred.
  • Building an engaging and positive classroom culture with clear and high expectations.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s Degree — graduate or professional degree is preferred.
  • A strong sense of integrity, professionalism and responsibility.
  • A strong work ethic with high expectations of self and a team-first mentality.
  • At least a solid level of exposure to, interest in and understanding of, social-emotional learning.

Tyler’s Camp Literacy Instructor

Tyler’s Camp, SummerCollab’s middle school academy, offers Delaware’s rising 4th through 8th graders a unique summer experience. Tyler’s Camp targets a wide variety of students by providing arts, hands-on technology, and athletic options, alongside targeted literacy support. With this, students have the opportunity to see growth in their motivation, self-esteem, critical thinking, leadership and entrepreneurial skills. Tyler’s Camp is committed to facilitating high-quality literacy instruction to participating youth during the summer. The literacy instructor is crucial for helping close the summer learning gap.

YOUR ROLE

Using your expertise, alongside of SummerCollab’s literacy resources, you will execute a small group literacy intervention program for students in grades 5-6 within hour blocks on a daily basis. Major responsibilities include:

  • Plan and execute small group reading lessons based on student needs and provided curriculum
  • Collect, review, and analyze data and overall progress of students
  • Assist with pre and post assessments of students in order to track progress throughout the summer

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

SummerCollab is seeking proactive problem solvers who have the desire and passion to help students reach their greatest potential. Candidates should have at least two years of experience teaching literacy and/or providing targeted literacy interventions to individuals and small groups of students. Literacy instructors must be organized, engaging, and flexible in order to meet the needs of a diverse group of learners. Bilingual (Spanish and English) candidates preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend and actively participate in all relevant training sessions in both the preseason and summer months
  • Using the SummerCollab literacy curriculum, plan and execute highly engaging reading lessons for groups of no more than fifteen students at a given period
  • Administer baseline assessments to all students at the start of camp in order to determine appropriate instructional strategies and growth goals
  • Differentiate instruction for struggling students and utilize assigned counselor to support student progress
  • Implement a tracking system for student reading intervention progress
  • Maintain a positive attitude, addressing student issues in an appropriate, professional manner
  • Collaborate with other literacy instructors throughout the summer to devise action steps and discuss best teaching strategies

COMPENSATION

  • Preseason and training hourly rate: $18/hr
  • Camp hourly rate is commensurate with education and experience: ranges between $22-$29/hr
