Volunteer expectations

We’re looking for high school students, sixteen years or older with a desire to serve their community through exposure and experience working directly with students in low-income areas. Volunteers must be flexible, proactive, team-oriented, willing to challenge themselves personally and professionally and operate with a growth mindset.

The volunteer will be placed in one of the Collaborative Camps for a minimum of one week. (Our camps operate Monday – Thursday, 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM from June 8th – August 19th.) He/she will work with a dynamic team of leaders committed to a shared mission. Volunteers will be trained by SummerCollab and camp leadership who will onboard each volunteer to their specific role.

During the summer, volunteers will select one of the following:

Reading Buddies (RB)

Assisting students while they complete exercises and read material in order to improve their reading comprehension skills

Occupational Therapy (OT)

Improving fundamental learning skills, such as handwriting development and promoting functional skills for children with developmental disabilities

Counselor In Training (CIT)

Supporting counselors in the classroom by assisting the setup of experiments/exercises and maintaining classroom focus
