Learning Labs

Our commitment to making sustainable change for low-income kids begins with our commitment to strengthening leadership teams at our partnering agencies.
Any leader driving significant culture or operational changes through their program requires support. At SummerCollab we build a learning community around our leaders in shared areas of growth. All Learning Labs are constructed to offer skill development sought by our partners to ultimately improve camp management, staff performance and operations.
Through our “Learning Labs,” camp leaders self-select into expertly-designed courses ranging from behavior management, talent management, and strengthening one’s leadership team.
Learning Labs offer camp leaders a space to grow their leadership and management practices with an executive coach or through cohort based workshops.

SummerCollab 2016 Learning Labs Include:

  • Optimizing camp schedule for learning:
In this Learning Lab, leaders work with our national partners at EXPLO to develop a schedule that promotes summer learning and student choice. Through this Learning Lab camps might prioritize and execute a more comprehensive schedule, including clearly identified activity choices, tied to daily and weekly objectives.
  • Planning, delegation, and execution:
In this Learning Lab camps will focus on strengthening the practices and operations of their leadership team. This Lab will provide diagnostic tools to help identify areas of strength and opportunity, and enable partners to improve areas of operation including team communication, culture building, feedback, delegation, project planning, goal setting, analyzing and responding to data insights, as well as tracking progress to goal.
  • Talent and Staff Management – Accountability
In this Learning Lab, camps will strengthen staff performance and effectiveness, resulting in improvements in staff and student learning, satisfaction and engagement. Diagnostic tools will help identify areas of growth ranging from staff selection to training, communication, management, feedback and evaluation.
  • Building culture through a strong system of feedback and coaching:
In this Learning Lab, camps will focus on strengthening the quality, performance and retention of staff through developing a culture of systematic, clear and consistent feedback, observation and coaching.
  • Behavior Management:
In this Learning Lab, camp Leaders will focus on addressing the underlying issues behind problematic behavior and creating effective structures and procedures to best create a usable and consistent behavior system. Leaders will work on building a plan that incorporates unique student needs, staff training and culture to achieve a seamless and effective behavior system.

Learning Labs connect camp leaders to elite national coaches and professional development providers who work closely with the Lab for 3-5 months through executive coaching and cohort workshops to meet their camp leaders’ specific needs.
