SummerCollab transforms educational outcomes for low-income children by equipping community-based institutions and schools with the curricular, academic, and organizational resources, to execute extraordinary summer learning programs. SummerCollab employs and trains top teachers, high school and college students to help them do it. In 2017, SummerCollab received the National Summer Learning Association Excellence Award for its innovative and impactful approach to making summer smarter.
SummerCollab focuses intensively on summer learning because leading education researchers today point to the summer opportunity gap as a key cause of the achievement gap. To be precise, two thirds of the achievement gap is attributable to summer learning inequity. To solve this problem, SummerCollab specializes in empowering community based agencies to execute high quality summer learning programs.
Last year, SummerCollab helped nearly 2,000 kids reverse learning loss in vocabulary, phonics and sight word recognition. This year, SummerCollab will aim higher. Through its alliances with nearly 40 community partners, cultural institutions and schools, SummerCollab will engage Delaware’s highest need youth in dynamic, effective learning institutions that meet precise literacy deficits, grow critical thinking skills, and deepen sense of self. With your help, Delaware’s highest-needs kids will explore, learn, and grow during the summertime.

EXPLO/COLLAB Instructor – Tyler’s Camp
At Tyler’s Camp our kids are free to explore their personal interests and grow their skill in areas of their choosing – all while practicing problem solving, leadership, and literacy skills. Tyler’s Camp brings together diverse, robust and high-quality community based partners who – together – amplify our collective ability to serve Wilmington’s youth. EXPLO Studios and COLLAB Curriculum are hands on, project based, student driven experiences that bring the mission of Tylers Camp alive. By executing this curriculum, our EXPLO/COLLAB Instructors engage students and drive meaningful growth with our students this summer.
EXPLO is a national leader in student engagement based out of Norwood, Massachusetts. It is an organization with a dynamic global community of students and faculty that promotes creativity, engagement and intellectual daring. SUMMERCOLLAB is an innovation lab that develops engaging and creative critical making courses that are focused on developing critical thinking and “productive struggle” skill sets with our students. COLLAB builds curriculum and coaches teachers to support students in developing these skills.
This Summer, these elite Tyler’s Camp EXPLO / COLLAB Instructors will bring Critical Making/ Critical Thinking and STEAM courses to life, activating the incredible problem solving potential of our students.
Tyler’s Camp EXPLO / COLLAB Instructors will execute engaging, hands on curriculum each day during the summer. Lessons encourage inquiry based, and interactive learning in which the student is at the center of the action.
